Caribbean Cup logoJamaica have defended their Digicel Caribbean Cup title with a penalty shoot-out win over Guadeloupe in Sunday’s final held in Martinique. This means that Jamaica have won the tournament on five occasions, three behind record champions Trinidad & Tobago. In the 3rd/4th place play-off Cuba beat Grenada by 1-0.

The final finished 1-1 after extra-time with both goals coming in the first half with Jamaica’s Omar Cummings giving his side the lead after 32 minutes only for Guadeloupe to equalize five minutes later through Ludovic Gotin. With no further goals in the contest it came down to a penalty shoot-out to decide the champion. Both teams traded four successful penalties until Jean-Luc Lambourde missed Guadeloupe’s fifth spot kick, meaning that Troy Smith’s conversion of Jamaica’s fifth penalty was enough to give the Reggae Boyz another title.

In the 3rd/4th place play-off Roberto Linares’ 12th minute strike was enough to seal third place for Cuba in their 1-0 win over Grenada.
