Another one of those viral sensations has hit the net after a bizarre handball incident in the FIFA Women’s World Cup currently being held in Germany.

Australia were playing Equatorial Guinea today in their Group D game at the Ruhrstadion in Bochum when, in the 16th minute, defender Bruna quite clearly handled the ball and kept it in her hands before throwing it away in full view of the referee who left the incident unpunished. The Matildas, as the Australian women’s team are known, eventually went on to win the contest 3-2 with goals from Leena Khamis, Emily Van Egmond and Lisa De Vanna helping secure Australia their first three points in the tournament after they lost their first match 1-0 to Brazil. Equatorial Guinea, meanwhile, have lost both of their opening games to Norway and Australia and will finish their group campaign with a tie against the much-fancied Brazilians on Wednesday.
